I'm just a walking shadow of the man I used to be, the now and future paper picture of the once and former me. The days that I spent watching and the long nights I stood guard have spent and burned everything I earned and this is my reward. I used to wear the white hat. I used to do no wrong, shooting fast and loose till they called a truce and Freedom came along. But now my guns are silent and the naked light of day shows the faces of the Lords of Love who would take my guns away. It seems folks don't remember. How soon they forget to say that it can't happen here means it just ain't happened yet. The Lords of Love have fooled you. They're really Lords of Lies. If you let them do your thinking for you, you're in for a surprise. I used to wear the white hat. I used to do no wrong, shooting fast and loose till they called a truce and Freedom came along. But now my guns are silent and the naked light of day shows the faces of the Lords of Love who would take my guns away. And now my guns are useless. They're buried in the ground and the Lords of Love are so proud of the Peace they think they've found. But don't upset their balance and don't step out of line or you'll find out they're out of patience and you're all out of time. I used to wear the white hat. I used to do no wrong, shooting fast and loose till they called a truce and Freedom came along. But now my guns are silent and the naked light of day shows the faces of the Lords of Love who took my guns away. Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya feel lucky, that's what I say. Lucky in a forty-four sort of way? A legend in your own mind, Lieutenant, go ahead and make my day. A man's got to know his limitations and you've got to ask yourself, do ya, do ya, do ya feel lucky, punk or do you feel something else? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya? Do ya feel lucky, punk or do you feel something else? This says you're shit outta luck!

Your friends don't ska but that's no crime, 'cause we skank it up all the time. Your friends don't ska and that's okay. We might could be friends anyway. But your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska and here's what for, because we ska on the twos and fours. Your friends don't ska and that might do 'cause you ska with me and I ska with you. But your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska Your friends don't ska. That's as may be but I ska with you and you ska with me. No, your friends don't ska and that's alright. They won't come home with us tonight. 'Cause your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska No, your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. Your friends don't ska. No, your friends don't ska.

about

Sound System Seven is a Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC band that's been flying just below the radar since its debut at Cat's Cradle during the climax of the 2015 Carrboro Music Festival, but has been gaining airspeed with higher profile shows like the NC State Fair last October.

Anthem is a Reggae Rock opus with political undertones. Bass guitarist Thomas Szypulski says, "This isn't the first time a band I'm in has recorded Anthem, but this one is my favorite. I toast the third verse and that's always fun live, too."

"We were lacking a permanent brother on sax while we recorded these songs," says vocalist and keyboard player Derek "dB" Brinson. "So we did what any thinking musicians in the Triangle would do and engaged saxophonist Tim Smith to sit in on the recording sessions." Smith and several members of Sound System Seven played together in Archboishops of Blount Street years ago.

"Indeed the horns on Anthem and Apocalypso make those songs special for me," states Szypulski. Apocalypso is a poppy Jazz number with Dancehall Reggae influences. It's also not the first time Apocalypso has been laid down on tape. "My old band, The Estranged, released Apocalypso twenty-some years ago," Brinson adds. Rob Spear's trumpet solo and the symphonic nature of Szypulski's brass arrangement give Sound System Seven's Apocalypso a 2001-style Kubrickian crescendo.

Your Friends Don't Ska is a rollicking Ska Punk two-and-a-half minutes. "I gotta admit I'm excited about this one," continues Szypulski. "It's the first time I've ever sung lead vocals on a record more than three people have heard." It's a skankin' good time that will have people dancing every time they hear it.

Rounding out the recording ensemble are Bruce Wassel on drums, George Shepherd and Jonathan Lima playing electric guitars, and Andy Powell swinging the trombone. More information on Sound System Seven can be found at their website: www.soundsystem7.com.
